Re: Have anyone successful get power in charge to decide to leave SW ?
WIth the database used with IDEAS, you did all of your work locally. The server didn't know anything about it until you checked it in. That was really nice, but we had some users that weren't great at checking parts in when they were done, which affected other users and assemblies. It also allowed ...

Yes we do How do ECOs work in Solidworks PDM? In Teamcenter, Engineering Orders are their own item types that contain revisions. So EO000014 has a revision called EO000014/A. This method seems odd; I'm not sure why you would want to make a revision of an EO....??? image.png The reason I ask is beca...

Re: Recording revision history
In our case, we use PDM so there is some history there for all part versions. For a quick look, we also have a PDF archive of all released drawings that we can quickly look through. Changes are officially documented in the ECO referenced on the drawing revision table. Those are also all kept as rec...

Recording revision history
Do you track changes in the item/part revision, or in the ECO, or both? (Let me say right away that I'm not talking about revision tables on drawings. I'm referring to recording the revision history of part XX in PDM.) If your coworker wants to see change history in 5 years for a part designed today...

We call it a 'Non-Revision Change'. I drill it into users that it is primarily to make corrections to parts that haven't 'escaped' Engineering (i.e. they haven't hit the shop floor) or for changes that are strictly clerical (misspellings in a note, adding a missing dimension, etc). They are also ab...

WIP for every part?
This is a conversation we just had today. Should all parts/items perpetually have one WIP revision on top of all released revisions? I thought it's a less-than-great idea, even though General Motors does it. But there is an upside; it allows you to make clerical changes without forcing a revision or...

Keep assembly features in mind for use cases where material is removed. Here's a case we've had: Collar A is purchased form vendor. In ASM123 one occurrence is welded as-purchased, another occurrence gets a tapped hole and grease zerk before being welded. Our solution was to use the direct part file...

I'd like some input on this, since I'm starting to consolidate tribal knowledge.
