Re: workflow to save & use opposite hand version of part
I'm on SW24 sp3 & so far so good. This was a simple example to flush out the workflow, the more complicated part is yet to come. But at a simple level if I make a change to the master part (grey) changes become faithfully updated in the mirrored part (pink) which get saved out to the standalone ...

Re: workflow to save & use opposite hand version of part
Looks like I missed this check box during the 3-step mirroring wizard. Nothing really happens until you save the 'mirror generator' assembly then it kicks out a part. But I was able to open the mirrored part standalone or apply it to another unrelated assembly or make unique drawings etc. So I guess...

workflow to save & use opposite hand version of part
I've made this dummy example to ask my workflow question. The grey part represents my left hand master part. I made an assembly from it & mirrored about right plane using 'opposite hand version option', which yields the pink part. Now, going forward, any change I make to grey part gets reflected...

Display state sub-pane not sticking after modifying
SW-2024. Whenever I move the display state window upward towards the configurations list by gripping the pane title edge with little hand, it always seems to eventually snap back to the bottom again once I have returned. (It's just a personal aesthetics thing in order to make a more compact combined...

Align section line to an axis
I can't seem to find a method to align a section axis to, in this case, a hole axis. It will lock on the center point, but just free floats over the axis. I tried overlaying a coincident line via Sketch and/or a terminating point to guide it with a second reference, but the section axis does not see...

Re: hole callout incomplete
Thanks. I think you put your finger on the issue AND potentially a larger problem. When I installed SW-2024 I noticed it was setting up folders with '(2)' within the folder description. Maybe I selected the wrong installation option to begin with. IOW it recognized an identical folder name from SW-2...

hole callout incomplete
When I make a drawing & invoke the hole callout, it no longer provides the additional information regarding thread details. Just the nominal pilot hole diameter (0.130"). Yet the annotation for the thread is coming across automatically, so it knows its a threaded hole alright. For some stra...

Re: set views to "hidden lines removed" in drw template
I might be wrong about this but seems to me I had a similar issue. Pretty sure I had to have a part view within what ultimately became the drawing template in order to specify & save specific part view related changes. Another possibility is (I think) some display properties get saved along with...

Replace my 3DConnexion CadMouse Pro?
My 3 year old 3DConnexion CadMouse Pro (wired) is acting up & progressively getting worse. Skippy & erratic scroll wheel syndrome. If I scroll up, it lags, or goes the wrong direction, scroll some more then it comes back, sometimes overcompensates. Same problem works in reverse. Same issue i...

Simulation Xpress capability question
Not sure if I should be posting this question in this sub-group, but here goes. I'm using SW-2024, the bottom rung basic version. I have never used Simulation Xpress, but have always been curious as to its capabilities & limitations. I now have an example project I could use some insight on. Its...

Re: What controls default front view initial shade darkness?
Hmm, could it be this easy? I just noticed that for whatever reason my new Part template had 3 point faded as the default. Maybe that originated from the SW24 download templates. But when I selected Plain White, the part was that more pleasing pale blue color & +/- remained that way when I sketc...

What controls default front view initial shade darkness?
I've noticed when initially drawing on the front face of a part, the surface color is quite dark grey. To the extent my dimensions are less visible so I'm always toggling wireframe view. But when I sketch on any other part surface, its lighter. What's weird is if I sketch on the front face a second+...

Re: Workflow for importing thread methodology
Thanks for comments. The example I included is indeed a standard thread profile available in SW, but that was just a sanity check to see if my methodology was yielding the same resultant values as the calculator. On occasion (unrelated to 3D printing) I do require non-standard threads, or matching a...

Workflow for importing thread methodology
This question happens to be related to threads, but maybe its a more generic question. I keep a dummy part file handy as kind of a mental reminder of how I've been making threads using a handful of dimensions from an online calculator. Its not very complex but I do it infrequently. So I just open it...

Re: Solid Edge 2024 Community edition is now available
I'd like to hear any comments from folks using this program who have Solidworks experience - how it compares functionally, hits, misses, limitations... My understanding is SE is locally installed, no cloud storage requirement, no mandatory public domain sharing of files (+++ IMO). Seems like there i...

Re: Printer settings within drawing templates
Thanks! I suspect when I copied one template to make a new one, I probably left this setting intact until I realized what was going on. - so what would checking the Use system settings do? Revert to some Windows printer default setup, whatever that was? - by leaving the Set each drawing sheet indivi...

Printer settings within drawing templates
Does anyone know if the printer setup is somehow stored within a drawing template? I have rebuilt my SW21 templates to SW24 version from scratch, all working good for the most part. I have separate portrait & landscape versions with appropriate corresponding title boxes & layout, both on 8.5...

Re: Carryover of saved custom views
It's not a folder on your hard drive. It is an entry in the Windows Registry. I see, thank you. My knowledge level just tapped out with those words so I consulted with Gemini. This looks like something I could manage to really screw up. Chimpanzee with a loaded weapon syndrome LOL. Just out of morb...

Re: Carryover of saved custom views
I believe you are talking about the saved views here: image.png These saved views aren't saved in the templates. You will see the same list of saved views in parts and assemblies. They are stored in the registry: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SOLIDWORKS 20xx\User Interface\Saved Vi...

Auto thread hole notation
What setup parameter within SW tells the drawing to automatically notate the threaded holes? I assume it is somewhere in the drawing template options, but it snot jumping out at me. In this example the (bold) M3x0.5 tapped hole is what is auto-populated when drawing is first created. The other note ...

2024 SP2 problem with traction using Blocks
Hi I posted this on the main SW forum, but paraphrasing here as FYI. (I'm new to this forum) I tried doing a very simple block engagement representing gears. I drew some circles representing different pitch diameters 12T, 10T & defined them as blocks. I can insert them into another sketch, align...

Carryover of saved custom views
I just installed SW24 SP2.0 so going through the exercise of creating fresh Part, Assembly, Drawing & Sheet templates. I'm noticing a quirk that I have seen before on prior versions, but was not expecting it now because I was used fresh templates from 2024 download. I know from past experience i...
