Re: Question about the EXPERIENCE add-in for Solidworks
The SIMULIA guys probably have capability to import the SW parts or assemblies straight into 3DX through the thick client but at that point they will be converted to 3DX native objects (dumb solid) so if you change the geometry in SW, they will need re-importing as a new object.

Re: Question about the EXPERIENCE add-in for Solidworks
For the data to be useable by the SIMULIA team, the data has to be saved via the connector. Yes, the connector is just a way to manage SW data in 3DX, it is not specific to SIMULIA. As well as being revision and maturity controlled, data saved in through the connector could also be used in CATIA as ...

Re: Question about the EXPERIENCE add-in for Solidworks
The SW connector is supported for 3 versions (latest and 2 behind so for now it is supported for SW 2023, 2022 and 2021). If your colleagues are using SIMULIA, you can save your SW data into 3DX, they can open in it SIMULIA and do their studies. If you change the model in SW, the change will reflect...

Re: sharing content across collaborative spaces in 3DX
Hi
From the help docs:
You can share objects with active users only.
You can share objects with private collaborative spaces only.
You can share an object that you own with yourself. However, you cannot share an object with the collaborative space/organization pair it belongs to.

Re: G code programming & SWX
Theres a big gap between knowing about manufacturing and how parts are machined to knowing the actual G-Code. A design engineer should always understand DFM but wouldn't need to know G-Code unless they are also going to be doing CAM Programming.

Is anyone using Envelope Publisher? What is the advantage?
Hi, Is anyone using the functonality of Envelope Publisher? It allows to publish envelope components in to sub-assemblies. From what I can see it puts an instance of the envelope component with a link back to the reference. I can't yet tell what the advantage of that is over simply inserting the env...

Re: "Publishing" Geometry
This functionality is also in CATIA. To get close to this in SWX, I am currently looking at using Envelope Components and switching on the External Reference option to only allow references to be created to Envelope Components. This is the closest I can find, I think this setting only came in SW2020...

Re: Have any SolidWorks VARS started using the 3DSwym platform to communicate with their customers?
Each customer that adopts the 3DX Platform is designated their own SWYM Community. In that community will be DS employees including R&D, the relevant VAR employees and of course the customer platform members. The community can be used for enhancement requests or raising any problems etc.

Re: Assembly Bubble Up
@josh - Nope, I can edit a detail part in a sub assembly, for example change a sketch dimension and this will not invoke a save on anything other than the changed part. I'm not really trying to make a comparison. Just to understand the behaviour of a different program

Re: Assembly Bubble Up
In Solidworks this seems to be the case. To my mind this brings no advantage, only additional challenges and forever saving things that haven't fundamentally changed, all the way up to the root....Really I was asking as a way to know if this behaviour can be changed. I think I have my answer... Many...

Re: Assembly Bubble Up
Hi Josh, Your scenario is somewhat different. Mates are at the assembly level and by deleting the hole you have affected the condition of the mate. I agree this changes the modification of the assembly. CATIA would do the same. Let me turn that situation around though. Let's say you followed your st...

Re: Assembly Bubble Up
Hi Josh, Yes, indeed. I don't see why the root cares that a change has been made to a feature on a detail part. Just seems to me too much rebuilding and saving has to be done at the highest level. To answer your question about CATIA, the bubble up is far less sensitive. My original example was a roo...

Re: Assembly Bubble Up
Hi Frederick, Thank you for your frank and to the point response. I know I have changed a part. My issue is that I don't see why changing a detail part in a sub assembly invokes a rebuild and save on the root assembly way up the tree. To me this behaviour is unintuitive but I just have to accept thi...

Assembly Bubble Up
Hi, Please can someone enlighten me on any ways to manage this issue: Say I have a Root assembly with 2 sub assemblies, each with 2 detail parts inside. If open up 'Sub assembly 1' on it's own and create a sketch in a detail part, then save the sub assembly and close it, on opening the Root it will ...
