Does SolidWorks 2021 SP 5.1 run on Windows 11?

Unread post by Mike Gera »

I'm in the process of setting up a new Windows 11 workstation. When I went to download SolidWorks 2021 SP 5.1, I saw that it only listed "Windows 10" as being supported.

Will it run on Windows 11?

Thanks for any replies.

Mine was running without any problem.
Since last Friday, I'm on 2022 sp0. I don't know if it's supported or not, but it's perfect on my side.

Thank you, Tera.

What are the specs on your system, if I may ask?

Thanks. No problems whatsoever? That's making me want to try it, lol.

Well, I had this problem. But it turned out to be a setting problem. It was solved by turning off enhanced graphic option.

I still have a problem in printing drawings in PDF. but it's an adobe acrobat pro problem and doesn't concern SW.

I love Windows 11. It's much user friendly, much faster and far better than Windows 10. I know a lot of people doesn't like it, But they didn't liked Windows xp too because they were used to windows 95. With every generation of a software, there are always a lot of users that are against the changes. But for me it's some kind of evolution.
I still remember when Solidworks changed its interface from menus to ribbon, or when was that, when the icons color changed from yellow to what we have now. There was a storm of oppose. But here we are.

Yes, I love windows 11 and will never go back to 10. No matter SW supports it or not. No matter if SW doesn't perform best (which does). I use a lot of apps for my daily job and SW is only one of them. I don't sacrifice all just because SW doesn't support win 11.

Look, I'm all for progress, when it's warranted. However, I completely disagree with the ribbon based on the fact that monitors went from 4:3 to 16:9. That made vertical real estate very valuable. When it's all said and done, I think it will be universally understood that the move was a mistake. Even Chrome gets it, see:

Change should be for improvement, not stepping backwards...I and others believe (in my mind with good reason) the ribbon was a mistake.

Do you really feel much more comfortable to work with menus rather than the ribbon?
For sure you know you can minimize the ribbon and use it as a menu. The only difference is a menu is a vertical list while a minimized ribbon is horizontal. Which considering using 16:9 monitors gives you more horizontally space.

Customizing the toolbar is limited and they needed more functionality. For example animated tooltips can not be performed on a toolbar. I think moving from menu to ribbon was an inevitable move. It was a matter of time.

And by the way, it's not fair to compare a browser with one of the most complicated CAD software. They perform different tasks and user's expectation is completely different. Someone browsing internet doesn't need to pick items from the toolbar or menu frequently. One more point. Chrome is designed to be able to perform on both PC, tablet & smart phones.

PS : Apologies to OP for hijacking the thread and going off topic.

I noticed that 2022 SP 1.0 is overdue (referencing the SP rollout schedule of previous years). This is pure speculation, but I wonder if it's because they're trying to bake in Windows 11 support?

yo this is a new system? is this for rendering or modeling? if thats for modeling your going to be really really really unhappy. modeling you want the fastest single core you can get.
