Welcome!
Welcome!
It's that fresh new CAD forum smell! This place is so brand new that I don't have any rules posted yet! Use the Suggestions topic to post suggestions. I've got other work going on while I'm configuring this and trying to make it look like something not right out of the box, but I'm open to suggestions.
Just to start off, we have SolidWorks and Solid Edge categories. I'll probably add Onshape and Fusion 360, and maybe Rhino if someone asks for it. We need people to ask questions as well as answer. We may want to ask some obvious questions just to get them in the database that we can continue to grow over time.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy yourself here. Thanks for coming!

Re: Welcome!
Howdy Matt,
I'm glad to be here, and I really hope this takes off. At least it's on a platform I'm familiar with, doesn't require a six week course to be able to navigate, and actually works. I belong to a non-CAD forum that used this platform before switching to xenForo, and while I like xenForo a little better, this one is fine.
If I remember right the biggest issue with this one was inserting screenshots, but maybe that's been fixed?

Re: Welcome!
Well, I'm here. Let's see what becomes of this!
Re: Welcome!
This forum even as a "block poster" option and it's even aptly named "Manage Foes".
FWIW I would agree with some of the comments on the SW forum, not sure how you'd ever get traffic here. CAn you just port all the posts from over there to here so at least when someone searches the interweb for something there some content here that might pop up?

Hey, thanks all for showing up! I'm still finding the reins on this thing. Do we really need a JimWright2 already? Where is JimWright1? Anyway, JimWright2, I've added a CAM topic for you, and a 3D Print for the person that was about to ask.

That has been going for about ...15 years now, I think. That will attract some people. But really, if this has any hope it's going to be because people who come here invite other people. If we get enough interesting folks, it will be worth coming to see. Burhop, in case you don't know already, is a pretty interesting person, and I'd come here just to see what he has to say.
Anyway, I'd rather try and fail than be afraid and not try. All those people drowning in 3D Swym are going to be looking for another home soon anyway.

We don't need no stinking rules...
Re: Welcome!
I'll write some rules later. They'll be pretty simple and straight forward. I don't get any power trip by writing silly rules. Plus, I really don't like rules myself. It's a little ironic that I'd be the guy making the rules, as I was usually the one breaking them...
Not really. I guess I forgot that people still use that. If you want, I'll add it to the list.

Thanks for starting something, Matt. The format sure takes me back to an old gaming community that used phpBB.

Good morning, everyone, nice to see so many over here already!
Can the creator of this forum please disable all signatures? Or can I somehow disable them?
Otherwise this whole thing will be horrific to read!

Thank you!
This is great for a registered user, but a pain for a viewer. My advice would still be to turn it off for everyone, because of that.
Re: Welcome!
There are some options to limit smilies and links and code and font size, that might be a good compromise until we can see how much of a distraction it will be.berg_lauritz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 10:34 am

There are none, though, are they?
Can I mark answers as correct?

I'm working on adding a Like extension, and a few other things. Keep the suggestions coming. I can't get them all tomorrow, but I'll work on it!berg_lauritz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 11:26 am

Re: Welcome!
Congratulations Matt
Re: Welcome!
i agree with the signature remark,
as we already have the profil of the write on the side.
talking about that, is it possible to change the font size of the "by user < date hour..."
because it's very small ?
or maybe a better solution, is it possible to swap the colunm display ?
instead of have "thread / profil" column
to get "profil / thread"
also i saw by testing the forum-theme, some have a partial-icon-legend
some have totally nothing.
is it possible to display a full-icons-legend somewhere ???

Hey Matt,
I can't attach a PDF. Is there a setting somewhere to allow other file types (definitely sldasm, sldprt, slddrt, and templates, text files, swp files, etc.)?
Here's the error:
