Part and BOM management

Unread post by jcapriotti »

What is everyone using for Part item master management with bills of material functionality or maybe software you've seen that might work? Need to look at migrating our legacy data out of an old mainframe system for our legacy data as a stop gap. So looking for something simple and cost effective. SolidWorks PDM doesn't have the functionality needed as our BOMs are really complex and configurable (150% BOMs) and we don't have all products and components modeled.
  1. Part item master creation and revisions.
  2. Bill of materials creation/editing.
  3. Basic ECO release function.
  4. Ability to migration part records and meta data and BOMs.
  5. Reporting on metadata or at least access to the database info to handle it externally if not built in.
Currently under consideration:
  • SolidWorks Manage (Since we have PDM)
  • Windchill (Since we already have it, just a beast to get setup and may be overkill)
  • Custom (IT management prefers commercial software but still under consideration)
