Gudday all,
have been struggling to apply weld preps to the ends of angle cut pipes in SW that reflect the actual pipe.
And embarrassingly been using sketch pictures and sketches in drawings to display preps details.
With this being ubiquitous across the piping industry there must be an easy way to apply the prep without resorting to surfacing and multiple guide curves.
Please see attached the part file showing another incorrect but closest way i have found.
All help and advice is greatly appreciated.
I am standing by ready to slap myself in the forehead
Thanks and Best Regards
Brett in Perth WA

Re: add weld prep to angle cut pipe
I was playing around with the chamfer types and this one seems to work. Give it a try and see if it helps you out.

There is a simple way with surfaces that only requires a single sketch. Start with this:
1. Create a sketch on the end face and offset the ID edge equasl to your land length (2mm): 2. Use the sketch to create a split line on the face: 3. Use the split line edge to create a ruled surface with the 'Tapered to vector' option and your desired weld prep angle. You may have use the 'Reverse direction' button and/or Alternate Side button to get it pointing in the right direction: 4. Use a surface cut (with the ruled surface as the cutting surface) to finish the prep and then hide or delete the surface: Repeat the process for the other side and you're done:
I'll show one side, but the process is the same for both sides.1. Create a sketch on the end face and offset the ID edge equasl to your land length (2mm): 2. Do it as a weldment. Leave a gap and then you can chamfer each side
