Mine was less than spectacular. My wife and I each had the flu the week of Christmas. We're okay now, and did our usual Christmas with family on New Year's Day instead.

The air temperature in Montreal is currently -12°C / 10°F, add the windchill factor and we're several degrees below that. Better yet, tonight's low is -19°C / -2°F, it's not your typical going out for a stroll type weather. One of the coldest nights I've experienced was last winter when my air-handling unit's thermostat read an outdoor air temperature of -28°C / -18°F, yikes!

Stay safe and warm.

It was -25C, with wind making it -40C felt this morning, I freaking hate that weather, but it's not like I can brandish a wand and just change it. I could move to some other place in Canada, but it's still Canada. I'd love to live in a place like Florida or Texas but I doubt I would ever get that 'chance'.

We had something like -38C felt last year with a -51C felt, that was seriously nasty but those temperatures rarely last, generally they last from a day to 3-4 days and then we're back in the -5 to -15C, which is tolerable, if I can put it that way.

I think it's all just negotiation tactics, but if we were to talk honestly about the principle, I think there would be a lot of things to think through on this. While we do have a lot of similarities, there are certain fundamental distinctions which a lot of Canadians would not necessarly be willing to 'let go' of. For instance "Free Health care" in Canada is something people really care about, even though our Health system is atrocious. To be able to see a dermatologist, I have to take an appointment that will then be 3 years later, which pretty much means, cross your fingers that your issue isn't too severe or else it might be too late when you do get to your appointment, if you have that chance. I think the same can be said the other way around, there are many things Americans have that they would not necessarly be willing to 'let go of'. I'm not one to advocate against firearms, but Canada is massively against them unfortunately, so imagine just that, the mess it would cause lol.

I think, what would make more sense for both countries without having to mix their politics would be for Canada to 'give-up' on the Canadian Dollar and start doing all their transactions in the US Dollar, as we are already mostly doing.

But, I'm no expert in politics or geographical situations either.

@AlexLachance You say Texas or Florida sound nice, you'll enjoy your Canadian weather when we are having our long stretch of over 100F (38C) degree days in the summer. The hard part is we are in "random season" (October thru about March/April). I had pictures pop up from a few years ago when I had the hammock out in January (not normal, but possible). It's really odd that Houston is getting snow today and Dallas is just cold and dry. Though all the people who didn't want snow in Dallas can thank me for not putting the sled back up in the garage that we pulled down a couple of weeks ago for our one day of snow. (I've been told by my co-workers to wait until April to put it up.)

We're currently in the middle of four or five days with the temperature never reaching 50°, and we had the same thing two weeks ago. I'm tired of it. It almost makes me fondly remember those multiple days of over 100° that @CarrieIves mentioned.

I don't like winter either. It's supposed to get down to the mid 20's F here later this week. That's too cold for me.

Montreal wasn't the hardest hit but has the longest history of meteorological events and it was announced that Montreal beat a record from 1898 with over 72CM of snow in a 3 day span.

Roads were closing everywhere sunday and yesterday. I wasn't even sure if I was going to be able to go back home last night because the conditions were horrible. The snowfall combined with the wind and cold temperature turned everything into a huge blizzard. They say it will take Montreal a good 2 weeks to get back to 'normal' in terms of road conditions.

There's a few cities and towns that declared state of emergency over here. Montreal says they only have 5% of the snow removed so far. It was honestly dangerous to drive yesterday. The wind almost blew my car out off the road as I was driving back home, like literally, I was driving straight and the wind was just pushing the car off the road because of the ice that was on the road. Some roads were entirely closed, visibility was close to none, so you could be driving thinking all's fine and out of nowhere a 6 feet high snow mountain just appears, blocking the road across completely, and if you weren't being careful enough then you'd be driving into it.

There's actually reports of a few people who have had that happen, having to abandon their car in a snow mountain in the middle of the road because it wasn't plowed and they couldn't get it unstuck. People were calling towings and cops to get help and they were being advised to simply leave the car there and find a place to shelter themselves.
