I was importing a STEP203 file... but for some reason the file is imported with colour/appearance into SOLIDWORKS..
My understanding is that STEP203 should not contain any colour data...

The file is a PCBA file which is exported into STEP203 format....

I check the STEP file via notepad and it seem like it used AP203 file schema... But for some reason, the STEP file contains colour data too Any idea what happen?

I hear what you're saying (per past 203) but I think the STEP ap is not very strict with color.
So I wonder of SW and others are being liberal with how the read in STEP data? (if color is there, translate it?)

Maybe when the file was exported, 214 was selected, but the exporter labeled it at 203? From what I found, 214 is the same as 203+color+GD&T so it could be a simple nomenclature error.

Oh, well apparently there was a second edition of STEP 203 that includes color information!

That was news to me

The file format get updated occasionally but CAD doesn't.
I've seen STEP fail between SW and IV because of newer STEP rev.
The STEP header include STEP rev.
Oh Parasolid file also.
