How to save components of STEP assembly?

I've got some STEP files from polycase.com. I can open them in SW2019. They are typically simple assemblies of an enclosure, cover, and some screws. I'd like to save the assembly as a .SLDASM, along with the components as .SLDPRT files so that I can modify them. When I do a Save As, I check Include All Referenced Components. I do not enter anything in the add prefix/suffix box. This creates the .SLDASM file, but the component .SLDPRT files are not created (in the directory specified).

When I go to open the .SLDASM file I press the References button. It lists one reference: filename.STEP.SLDASM located in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\swx7525\IC~~. If I look in that directory the .SLDPRT files are there, but only while the assembly is open. When I close the assembly, the files are deleted.

Can someone please give me a clue?

You can turn off "Enable 3D Interconnect" on your Import settings (General). You'll have to re-import the assembly and re-save it.

If you've already saved the assembly, right click and choose "Break Link"

If your part files have a "^" in the name now, that means they're virtual files (saved internal to the assembly), highlight them and choose Save to External File

Thank you! I would have never figured that out.
