Tree Display 2022

IMO, they've taken a huge step backwards with the "Tree Display" options in 2022, at least the way I have it laid out.

Here it is in 2020.
2020Tree.PNG
It is very easy to distinguish between the part name, the part dscription (in quotes) and the configuration name (in parenthesis.)

Here it is in 2022.

The config name is now in front of the part description, with no way to tell where one ends and the other begins.

This is the new dialog associated with it. They need to make "Configuration Name" an option under Tertiary.

ETA: It appears there is a bug where instead of showing the part description it shows the part name again.

Super annoying, and for me the sequence makes no sense.
I would suggest to put the Configuration Description under Tertiary as well.

My VAR provided an SR #, which I cannot find. Maybe someone who better understands the maze of SW web sites can help.

SR#1-24946947250

(eta: He said it could be several days before it was available.)

You should be able to find that SR by going to Customer Portal > My Service Requests

We'll only be able to vote on it once it has been converted to an SPR.

Not to mention the nonsensical behavior of the checkbox for 'Do not show Configuration or Display State name if only one exists'. It ties the two together for no reason. With the box checked, if you have two configs but only one display state, the display state name is still shown. One config and two display states? Go ahead and shown the config name.

The checkbox should be labeled 'Do not show Configuration or Display State name if and only if one of each exists'.

What developer or QA person tests this and says: "Yep! That's working exactly as it should!".

But...eh... ah... that is Solidworks standard operating procedure, isn't ?
;)

That's eff'd up. Why the heck would they do this? <()>

Any progress in turning this SR into SPR or ER, so we can join?
Properties are messed up even worse, my VAR started searching for ER, nothing found yet.

I have no idea what happens in the DSS black hole after an SR is submitted, or how to influence the process.

I have to imagine someone thought this was "better" than what they had in the past, so there's probably two camps arguing over what is the best way to display this information.

Or possibly the one engineer left working on Desktop works will get to it in 2026.

While they're still sorting out the Customer Portal closure transition, best approach at this point is to just enter it again in to the SW Enhancement Ideas Community as that's the new ER system going forwards; https://r1132100503382-eu1-3dswym.3dexp ... 2sLG5y9Kig

I've invested enough time in reporting a problem they don't care about. I'm not jumping through hoops because they've made the process too complicated.

SPR 1243259 "User Interface - Feature Manager: Feature Tree name changes if component description is displayed. Switched order and missing quotes."
-> reported as implemented in 2023 SP1 (we will see in a few weeks)

Is that surprise at having to re-enter it again, or surprise that that's the new ER system?

It's a rare example of DS seemingly listening to what people wanted. Everyone complained that the old ER system wasn't good and needed changing, mostly to include a conversation element to an idea and better transparency of what the popular ideas are. Moving it to Swym achieves both of those goals.

I find it hard to consider moving things to the swamp an improvement, but admittedly I stay as far away from that place as possible.

Oh yeah I think it's a terrible decision but I never understood the problem with the old one either. But it does address two of the biggest complaints about the old one so hard to hold the decision against them.

Anyone figured out how to add a "tag" to the ER's you submit? I submitted one for PDM but don't see a way to add the PDM user tag.

Did you use the Idea Form? It has all the tags in it and you're meant to delete the irrelevant ones.

Should be able to C+P the tags from that post in to yours. Mod will add the tags at some point too.

I finally found it on the left, staring me in the face. This is a bit better than the old way of doing enhancements. The tag system however needs a major standardization overhaul. They need a community manager who can police them.
