Top Ten List '23
So I've asked the question about whether or not we'll be allowed to post ideas "not related to core SW functionality" this year (think home use license, online licensing discontinuation, provide a usable forum - y'know, all the good stuff that gets canned every time) and apparently this year there is "no" requirement for it to be related to core functionality.
We'll see how long that policy lasts I guess.

Slip of the pen, I think. As soon Matthew sees this, he will take control.

Matthew is the one who asked Marlon for clarification so in this regard I think Marlon outranks him!

Outranking does not mean having more experience or knowledge about the history of things, it often shows higher employees making rough statements, overestimating their knowing of people and processes. We'll see, I have a lot of items for the TTL, however, some are in progress for over a year now.dave.laban wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 6:00 am Matthew is the one who asked Marlon for clarification so in this regard I think Marlon outranks him!

I C+P'd all mine in to a Word doc a few years ago to make recycling them easier. Last year it launched on Nov 8 so not long to go.

Thanks! I think my Ctrl, C and V keys are still recovering. I've had reassurances that the TTL ideas will actually be transferred to the Enhancement Requests community for future use and reference, which if done correctly (hah!) will actually satisfy one of the long standing requests from Jive of retaining the TTL submissions long term.
Re: Top Ten List '23
I know that you have been pressing hard,@dave.laban, for changes to the TTL and ER system. Go for it! It seems like you have taken up my baton. Sadly, my zeal has been swallowed up by the 3DSwamp.dave.laban wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 11:15 am Thanks! I think my Ctrl, C and V keys are still recovering. They should find a way to reward major contributors like you. A perpetual licence that is actually perpetual and unrevocable or something, I don't know, but I feel it's a shame that you have to do all this process for free for things to actually change.

I've just had add the SubD modelling within Solidworks kicked out!!!! They sure didn't want to take any chance of it making the top ten.
'Thank you for submitting your idea to the SOLIDWORKS Enhancement Ideas 3DSwym community. After reviewing this idea, we have determined that it is requesting functionality that has already been implemented.
We understand that you are asking for SubD surfacing features to be added SOLIDWORKS. At this time, we have decided to provide this feature in the 3D Sculptor application on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. You might consider using 3D Sculptor for subD modeling with 3D Creator for parametric modeling.
You can learn more about this implemented functionality here: https://blogs.solidworks.com/solidworks ... users.html

More evidence that solidworks is no longer pirority, and is on the path to being sunsetted (although it could be a long slow path.)

Ever seen the movie Guardian with Kevin Cosner and Ashton Kutcher? Know the scene where he puts the guy in the basket just before the line gets tangled in the ship's rigging and the helicopter crashes into the sea, pulling the guy they were rescuing down into the depths? Yeah, seems about like it.

I think Dassault has sunk a load of our Subs money in Sculptor and want some kind of return. My god, I just looked how much Sculptor costs and it's expensive for what it is.
Well at some point they have got to look at getting SubD into the surfacing features, it's ridiculous to have to use a separate piece of software. Fortunately many other CAD vendors have seen the light and are going down the correct route.

Re: Top Ten List '23
I'm baffled that a company that has treated their customers so poorly thinks a DSS product will be the replacement when Solidworks no longer holds up to the competition.

If you want a really robust SubD modeling system I'd recommend Rhino3D at this point. It's an overall great software in general and compliments Solidworks very well. And the price point is very reasonable.RichGergely wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 1:43 pm I think Dassault has sunk a load of our Subs money in Sculptor and want some kind of return. Re: Top Ten List '23
Yes I was aware of that and almost even mentioned it on a reply when they added the implemented note. You can buy several perpetual licenses of the full Rhino 3D for a years subs on Sculptor. Add to that it has already shoehorned SubD into the surfacing features.
Well it's Dassaults funeral if they don't start taking proper notice of where other CAD systems are at.
Funny how they were happy with the idea initially, probably didn't sink in for a few days the implications for sculptor. Now it would have been funny if it made the final ten on votes, then someone realised higher up the issue

Then down Tags menu the left, go to More Tags > User Tags to filter by category.
If you want to view by number of votes, go to More Tags > Likes, then use the three-dot menu to sort Alphabetical to order by the number of Likes, then you'll have to select the quantity of likes to see what Ideas have that many votes.

But hey, they say it's implemented so surely it will be in next years release of SW

I don't see how to apply this to the actual list of ideas. That's just the tag filters based on number of "likes".....they don't set the order of the actual list of ideas in the middle pane.

It's incredible how so many people from Turkey have voted for number 10. Bearing in mind that territory is far from the largest Solidworks user base.

#2 could also be taken from Solid Edge's workflow for selecting geometry for mate/relations. It's really simple because they have an active filter that is really helpful. It does all the workaround stuff that people keep asking to be fixed in SW, like filters and transparent, etc.dave.laban wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 3:51 am TTL as of 2023-01-13;

Simply select the type of mate you want, select part A, now only applicable geometry in part A is available to select. Select the geometry in part A then select part B. Again, only the applicable geometry in part B is available to select. select the geometry in part B. Done.
They should add implied axis to any type of conic or revolved feature while they're at it.

Re: Top Ten List '23
These vote numbers are a joke compared to the old forum in years past. Also considering how many SolidWorks users there are, the top 10 should be in the hundreds of votes each.RichGergely wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 1:05 pm This is where it becomes a joke and has been for some time. This system simple doesn't work, and if anything, is stopping the development of stuff that would be of more use to wider audience.
It's incredible how so many people from Turkey have voted for number 10. Bearing in mind that territory is far from the largest Solidworks user base.
Number 10 is a great example.....that's probably a bunch of people from the same company.

Perhaps they can't get Mold Flow in Turkey and they are stuck with the Solidworks optionjcapriotti wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 2:18 pm These vote numbers are a joke compared to the old forum in years past. The voting has just started. It takes a while for the users to be informed that the TTL exists (VARs, publications, DSS marketing to spread the news).jcapriotti wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 2:18 pm These vote numbers are a joke compared to the old forum in years past. The first year the TTL went to Swym it ended up being the "Tekyaz Top Ten List", I think users from that company managed to get something like 7 of the top 10 ideas.RichGergely wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 1:05 pm It's incredible how so many people from Turkey have voted for number 10. I would put money on that none of the 7 had anything to do with rendering as they are a re-seller of Keyshot.dave.laban wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 3:13 am The first year the TTL went to Swym it ended up being the "Tekyaz Top Ten List", I think users from that company managed to get something like 7 of the top 10 ideas.

We understand that you are asking for SubD surfacing features to be added SOLIDWORKS. At this time, we have decided to ...

I just saw this.RichGergely wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 12:51 pm I've just had add the SubD modelling within Solidworks kicked out!!!!
You can learn more about this implemented functionality here: https://blogs.solidworks.com/solidworks ... users.html
Because it is an implemented function, this idea will be removed from the SOLIDWORKS Top Ten List 3DSwym community one week from today. If you feel this idea is not already implemented, please modify your idea to make it unique and add a comment directed to @Top Ten List Admin
This is a SolidWorks Top Ten, not a 3DXperience Top 10, not a xDesign Top10, this needs to be adressed
