For anyone who has been running the Community edition of Solid Edge, the 2024 version has now been posted. Assuming the Student edition, and Free 2D has also been posted.

Just installed it yesterday. Haven't had much of a chance to see what is new. I am really only interested in the modelling side as opposed to data sharing/management. Do you have and favourites on this release? Wonder if Matt will do any videos on new features?

Is is just me or is 2024 kind of slow and clunky going through the command bar menus? Maybe there are some options to turn off that is contributing?

Jason, what are you referring to... Display speed of the form when switching commands or just utilizing them while selecting fields/options?

Just some general delays in the UI when going into commands. I think its the command bar trying to popup and change back forth between selection options and the feature options. Looks like it also tries to go into the sketch line command on entering the sketch, I'm sure there is an option to turn that off. Anyway, just little delays in the UI that has me clicking when it ain't ready yet.

Not sure as I'm not seeing it. Maybe something that was resolved in one of the 3 updates. Community edition is the initial release with no updates applied. I'm assuming you are running Windows 10 as well?

That's what I'm running. As long as it's up to date, should provide the best experience. There was a Win 11 bug around MFC controls, but it was like a year or so ago.

I need a little help guys.
I have tried to get the 2024 Community edition but basically they won't let me, when I go to the site I get this error message on the community edition page. If this version is free, why would I have so much trouble getting it.

@philem I answered your post on the Siemens Community as well. It may be due to an issue they were having with that download on their server as it was having issues mid-week and I believe it was being worked on late Friday but wasn't resolved yet.

The other possibility is that your location cannot be verified for export compliance which must still be adhered to for free licenses, but that usually results in a different message.

@philem The download is working again, so you might retry the download.

Hi KennyG,

Still a no go, when I go to the page I still get that error message, unless I am at the wrong place I can't see how to basically reset the page so I can download. If I log out of the page and relog back in, it still makes no difference.
Anyway thanks again.

UPDATE, I went to the download page, logged out, and signed back in using my Google account, and got it :)

@philem I was going to suggest using an alternate e-mail. It basically goes by that to verify what country you are located in and if it cannot verify it usually displays a message saying somebody needs to review your request. Glad you got it.

I'd like to hear any comments from folks using this program who have Solidworks experience - how it compares functionally, hits, misses, limitations... My understanding is SE is locally installed, no cloud storage requirement, no mandatory public domain sharing of files (+++ IMO). Seems like there is a support forum, not too sure about learning resource, I haven't looked that deep. If there is some deep review link that attempts to summarize SE vs SW, I'd be happy to read.I am aware of SW Maker which would seem to be the obvious choice based on my own existing familiarity, but it seems like installation & support has its quirks & hiccups too depending on who you talk to.

You may try taking a look at this discussion:

Also, if familiar with SolidWorks, Matt who hosts the forum we are on did a whole bunch of SE for the SW user videos on YouTube here:
