Modeling "Differenty" in Solidworks

Unread post by Arthur NY »

Am always looking at new ways to approach modeling within Solidworks and SubD has always been an area that, natively, Solidworks has not really looked at.... (No 3D Sculptor from 3D Experience doesn't count for a whole host of reason and can talk about that aspect in a different thread). The Surfacing and Solid modeling tools in Solidworks are great for a good majority of shape and form creation but are also quite limiting and time consuming in general in comparison to SubD modeling. This isn't to say that SubD modeling is a direct 1:1 way of modeling that completely replaces what exist but it does highly complement and enhance in ways that make life a bit easier.

Here is a quick video that was posted recently that shows the often very challenging way of trying to create a "Y" connection model. Yes this can be done with the Surfacing tools, mainly, in Solidworks currently but a bit more challenging than what is show in the video.

Granted this is a 3rd party add-on but if ever working with mesh data or looking to get native SubD modeling inside of Solidworks there isn't anything better.
