Need a suggestion

Unread post by doobes »

So,

I'm designing some new fan shrouds for my 3D printer. And, I'm stuck.

I want this vertical edge in the photo to be smoothed into the curve on the right and the angles surface on the left.

I had forced fit a loft cut, but it's home made ugly:

And my SolidWorks-fu has completely failed me.

I've attached a file below. It's v23.

Any ideas are welcome.

I don't know if this is quite what you are looking for. I applied a variable radius fillet to the three corners.

If you could show what this is supposed to attach to, that may help. It's difficult to picture what you're going for without knowing what it's intended application looks like.

OK,

This is the assembly. There are two fan shrouds, one is a mirror of the other:

And then the backside:

OPk,

Based upon sperman's suggestion, I applied a variable fillet to the vertical edge, and then another larger fillet to smooth everything out.,

This will work.

Thanks!

Wow.

That's sweet.

Your applications of surfaces was very cool.

Thank you

Well Doobes thats what I've had to do as a model makers since 85, first we used our hands to create ID models, then wire frame CAD then once desktop 3D CAD a whole new world.
I also machine CNC prototypes and of course the world of 3D printers can grow the stuff that can't be machined without 5 axis.

Thanks to guys like Mark Biasotti that help get better surfacing in SW, I was one of his model makers when he was a ID designer at IDEO from 91-92.
