Assembly Section Views

From time to time I need to create a section view to share with co-workers. This is much more effective when you can actually see what is happening in the section view. Unfortunately, with some materials applied to parts, it just gets washed out. You can see how the parts with dark colors keep the appropriate color on the section cap. However, the parts with a steel material applied turn white with no edges.
There is an option to "keep cap color." I think that should be labeled "apply cap color" because it isn't keeping a darn thing. It certainly doesn't make things any more readable.
It appears that the problematic material is luminescent. If I turn off my light source, it is still stark white.
I am using this model to do some rendering, so I want to keep the applied materials. The only thing I can think to do is to create another display state so that I can create a section view with meaningful information. If anyone has any other recommendations for dealing with this I would appreciate you sharing.
