So, I was looking into adding tags to Solidworks documents to see if that would make it easier for searching.

According to the help, you CAN add tags to the Solidworks Documents: It goes on to to say to select a Solidworks document in the task pane. Then to select tags in the Status Bar.

However, as soon as I click on tags, the Solidworks document is deselected. I have to click in the tag field at least twice to get it to gain focus. Apparently I can't have a Solidworks document selected and have my focus in the tag field at the same time.

If I type something in there, it is NOT applied to the document that I selected. It doesn't seem to go anywhere.

To add more clarity to this, I was trying to find out if the "tags" would show up in Windows explorer and also to see if it would become a searchable thing from Windows: But I cannot get it to work.

How do you apply tags to Solidworks documents?

I am on 2022 SP5. I was able to apply a tag. I found that not only would it lose focus on the first click, the list would scroll (I have one assembly open, but the list includes all the components). I was, though, able to apply a tag that stuck.

Thank you for the reply. However...

What I am looking to do is to add tags to directly to the document. The help file says that you can add the tag on a file in the file explorer tab: But when I try, I can't get it to stick.

I can add tags to individual features in the feature tree no problem.

What you show above is what I was doing, adding tags to a file in the little Tag box. I tried again and this time it took many more tries to just type text in the Tag box. Finally it did, and I find that the tag shows in Windows Explorer (see image). I don't know, though, what stopped it from assigning a tag at first or what I did to make it start working.

The Good ol' boot!

I suspect it has to do with PDM shielding the file. I tried to add tags in Windows Explorer and found most files don't have the Tag field in Details, but some, like JPEGs, do have the field, and I am able to add a Tag. I find the Solidworks files do have a Tag field but I am not able to edit that field in Windows Explorer. Doesn't seem to matter whether the file is read only or not.

Not entirely sure what is going on on our end. We don't use PDM at this time.
