Picking thru Sketch planes?

I was messing around with Onshape last night and when I went to place a new sketch and there was an existing sketch plane or plane in front the surface I wanted to select it would pick the sketch plane. The only way I could get around this was to turn the offending sketch off.

What's the right/Easy way to do this? In Solidworks the default is that planes are largely ignored unless it is the only choice. Sketches are not selectable at all except if the sketch is visible and select the geometry. I just found it odd that planes and even existing sketches took precedent over existing faces.
