red X by global variable?
red X by global variable?
One of my global variables has a red X by it. I can't find any explanation for what this might mean. I can't even figure out how it could be wrong. Variable name is Hub_diameter". Value is 4. What else is there?
Google only talks about the X by equations and features.
I've got a bunch of configurations, and it only appears in one of them (the default), unless I make a new configuration from that one. I've been building this model for a couple of days, and it just showed up not long ago. In the most recent configuration that I created, I get a red X in front of a different variable. Those are the only ones I've seen so far.
So... what's up with this red X by the variables?

Re: red X by global variable?
Also, the default configuration is not rebuilding correctly. There are a lot of dimensions that are set by equations, and they are not being set.
Sometimes I doubleclick on the dimension, and since I can't change the number due to the relation, I click the green check mark, and then the model rebuilds with the correct dimensions. Sometimes nothing happens when I doubleclick the dimension.
This sounds like a glitch that might go away tomorrow, after a reboot. And I'm not sure if it's related to the above problem, but that one appeared yesterday.

And now it's asking to rebuild whenever I open a configuration that doesn't already have a check mark by it. That behavior started right after I added the above comment.

Re: red X by global variable?
Can you post the part?
Re: red X by global variable?
Here is a possibility. I think that you defined something as the variable, and have since deleted it. Equations which use the variable will fail because the variable may have lost its source.
I have experienced this when I : perpetuate past work into a new project, start by gutting its details that don't apply, and then go into Equations folder to remove the GV's with errors. In my case, I am usually deleting dimensioned sketch entities where its dimension drives the GV or equation.

How do I upload a model?
By the way, how do I embed images? Does the image have to be hosted somewhere?

You may need to click on the "Full Editor & Preview" button first, then you can post files, screenshots, etc.

Re: red X by global variable?
I saw that, but there was nothing there that indicated anything helpful. The only thing I've found is the Upload button, up at the top of the page. Can someone tell me how that works? It doesn't seem to be linked to a post, so if I upload that way, does it give me a link I can use in a post? I didn't really feel like experimenting in a public space.
Re: red X by global variable?
Do not use the uploads for this use. It would stay in uploads, without context of this post topic.
It is below the buttons, in a tab.

It does not appear to have worked. I got an "http error" when I tried to upload a Swx file.
Also, I found that trying to upload an avatar violated my company's internet policy on social media or something.

Re: red X by global variable?
If you just drag and drop the file onto the box you are typing in, maybe that will work?
Re: red X by global variable?
Nope. Still nothing. Doesn't take Swx files or even image files.
Question: can you paste images in, from your clipboard? I can do that in other forums, but here it gives me that same http error.

Sorry I saw this late.
There are several ways to embed an image. If you have an image in the clipboard from a screen capture app or or something, you can just ctrl-V paste it directly in the text window (but not the quick reply, you need the full editor window). If you have an image file on your desktop, you can drag and drop it into the window. Or you can use the Attachment tab down below the text edit window to add an attachment to a post.
The Upload thing allows you to put up files that might have a general interest, and you can link to them from any post, or people might find them by browsing or possibly through search. Upload hasn't really been embraced. I'm not sure I have all the settings right on it, but it does work.
You should be able to attach most kinds of files. Definitely SW files should attach. If you find a type that won't attach, you can put them in a zip and attach that. And definitely drop me a note if you think something isn't working or you can't figure it out. I get in here several times a day, but I'm not always here (I do have other work to do

Re: red X by global variable?
Thanks for the info, Matt. I tried a Swx part, a jpeg, a png and an image from clipboard. They call give me a white box with the words "http error". That's it.
Like I said, I tried uploading an avatar, and I got a message that I was violating some company policy, so the error could be caused by something on my end. Other than that... it's probably not a Chrome issue?

Re: red X by global variable?
I tried all those, and they all worked for me. I'm using Chrome. If you can't upload from your work, it's reasonable to think that you probably can't do the other things as well. Do you see the Attachments tab under the text window?KSHansen wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 3:47 pm Thanks for the info, Matt. I tried a Swx part, a jpeg, a png and an image from clipboard. Maybe you could test it from home or from your cell phone?

Yes, I saw the attachments tab at the Full Editor. I'll see if I can try it from home tomorrow.
