Our IT would like to restart the Azure server that SolidWorks PDM runs on each night. What are the potential problems we should look out for?
Is this a common practice?

With some kinds of pdm, depending on the size of the vault, there was a delay in rebuilding the index. You might try a reboot on a weekend when you have time for it to complete what it has to do and just time it to make sure it gets started so its ready for the beginning of the workday.
I think the most common practice is to keep it running unless there is a specific reason to restart.

It's not common practice to restart a server every day. There are services that typically run during off-hours such as backups/replication of data among other things. In my experience, servers are restarted on an as-needed basis for updates, or if there are issues with performance that require that level of troubleshooting.

Is it the archive server or sql server?
I thought it was recommended to not share the archive or sql server with other stuff.
Do you have your sql server set to run backups at night?

thanks guys. I didn't think it was a common thing to do and also wondered about the back ups.

Ours can run for months without a restart. We only restart as needed for updates or server issues.
